Green Peafowl, in my opinion, are the most elegant and beautiful gamebirds anyone could own.  With a tighter crest than the India Peafowl, a taller stature and
larger body they are much more slender-looking.  They also have longer legs and different facial patterns.  The skin around the ear is yellow and featherless and
the stripe through the eye has a different pattern as well.  Green Peafowl have brilliant green feathers from the head down the neck, breast, shoulders and back.
These are all edged in copper and some with blue.  The iridescent green and brown throughout the body really sets these birds apart from other peafowl.  The
Indo-chinese Greens are the intermediate subspecies when it comes to color.  They are not quite as bold as the Java Greens but much more than the Burmese
Greens.  You can easily lose yourself for hours watching a few of these birds interact with one another in the sunlight.

The three subspecies of Green Peafowl are threatened
from extinction.  We raise them for conservation purposes
to keep pure bloodlines and protect the future of this
species.  In the future we hope to become part of the Pavo
Muticus Conservation program started by Wolfgang Mennig
of Germany.
Our Green Peafowl are fed a turkey grower pellet that has
20% protein and a good amount of fat.  We feed our
peafowl this feed so that they can pack on extra fat before
the winter months. Corn and fruit is also given to them as
treats and as a wild feed supplement, mimicking the fruit
they find in their wild range.  These birds do need
protection from the cold months and the snow.
Green Peafowl are from the same basic area of the world
as India Peafowl, but are in more isolated areas.  The
Indo-chinese Greens are found in small populations
throughout Indo-China.  Their wild habitat is warm
subtropical forests and meadows.
Our birds are not quite old enough to breed yet so we
haven't had the experience of raising Green Peachicks.
'Indie' and 'Sydney' are our breeder birds and will be
providing us with chicks next season.  As for the adults,
Indie is very inquisitive and always watches to see what I'm
doing while Sydney hides from me.

Each peacock is housed with a pair of hens.  Their interior quarters are 10ft  x 10ft and their exterior pen is 12ft  x 36ft.  Rhododendrons, lilies, hostas and fast
growing grasses are planted in the Green Peafowl pens to imitate a natural tropical/subtropical environment.  Long grasses and lilies are left to grow along the
fenceline to provide a sight barrier between pens and as cover for the hens.  This barrier prevents males from fighting through the fence but lets them know that
there are other males nearby.  When housing peafowl you must always take into consideration the size of the peacocks train.  When a mature male opens his
train it can be over six feet across.  He needs adequate room for displaying and adequate room for roosting with this large tail extension.
