Our Birds
Peafowl have to be the stateliest gamebird
available.  The Peacock strutting in the sun can
hardly be compared to anything else.  India
Peafowl are a hardy bird, the common species that
is seen on farms and in zoo settings.  They
tolerate cold weather and heat well.  Peafowl can
be trained to come into a coop at night but require
more time to learn than Chickens and Guinea
Fowl.  They can be housed in a pen with no
problems, living side-by-side with Chickens,
Guineas or Pheasants.  This is truly a unique bird
to have around.  It gives you an air of paradise to
see Peafowl roaming on your property.  We have a
few varieties of India Peafowl, including: India
Blue, White and Blackshoulder.

Guinea Fowl have so many abilities to offer- this
is why they are so popular.  Guinea Fowl are
used primarily for ranging.  They destroy ticks,
mosquito's, black flies and weeds.  They are also
good producers of dark meat and good eggs.
Guinea Fowl eggs are very healthy and work
great when being used in baking.  Guinea Fowl
also have an ornamental aspect to them.  We
have Guineas that are blue, polka-dotted, tan,
violet, unspotted, white and more.  We have done
extensive work in breeding our very own new
Guinea Fowl varieties.  There are so many that
there has to be one that catches your eye.
Guineas are also used as 'the barnyard
watchdog' because they will alert other animals
and fowl to any danger.  Guineas can be trained
and tamed to a degree.  They are a great addition
to any farm, homestead or rural property.

Spalding Peafowl
Spalding Peafowl are a hybrid of two species.
They are a cross between the India Peafowl and
Green Peafowl.  The aspects of Spalding Peafowl
are to bring the beauty of Green Peafowl and
combine it with the hardiness of the India Peafowl.
Spaldings will have a taller and tighter crest than
the India Peafowl.  Their overall stature is more
slender and taller as well.  They will have a darker
body color and closer pattern to the Green
Peafowl.  Spaldings are tolerant of heat and cold -
they can be housed the same as India Peafowl.

Heritage Turkeys are gaining popularity.  These
are not the commercial white and bronze birds.
Heritage birds are slow-growing, naturally-mating
and colorful.  They have a tender, sweet meat as
compared to the commercial breeds.  Heritage
Turkeys are also more disease resistant than the
commercial breeds.  These Turkeys will mate,
lay, incubate and rear their poults naturally.
Weighs differ by variety.  The Royal Palm is a
smaller black and white variety that is ideal for the
small family meal or as a farm pet.  Narragansett
and Bourbon Red are larger birds that are the
ideal meat bird for those interested in heritage
livestock or natural/organic growing.  We have
other varieties as well, including: Crimson Dawn,
Sweetgrass, Penciled Palm, Blue Slate and more.

Green Peafowl are very elegant and slender.  They
are taller than the other India peafowl species.
Their crests are pointed and erect.  Their facial
markings differ from the India Peafowl and the
Greens have a large yellow ear patch.  With their
long and skinny legs they are more susceptible to
the cold weather.  They should be kept indoors
with a warm room and heated roost to prevent
frostbite in cold climates.  They are very colorful
and highly sought-after by the gamebird and
poultry enthusiast.  Green peafowl occur in three
subspecies: Java, Indo-Chinese and Burmese.

These are the smallest gamebirds that we breed.
Also known as Brown and Japanese Quail, the
Coturnix is very popular and can be found in
almost all climates.  These birds originated in
Europe and Asia.  They grow rapidly and become
mature in only 8 weeks!  Hens and cocks are
visually distinguishable.  Hens lay an egg that is
8% of their body weight.  These are highly
productive meat and egg birds, making them a
great addition to the small farm or even the
suburban basement.  We have a few varieties of
Coturnix including: Pharaoh, Red, Tuxedo, Texas
A + M and Manchurian Gold.

Partridge
Chukar are the most common Partridge in the U.S.
They are about half the size of Ringneck
Pheasants.  They are a hardy and adapt well to a
lot of different terrains.  Fairly easy to raise and
disease resistant, they are a good beginners' bird.
Being a smaller bird with a short tail, they don't
require a lot of space.  The only draw-back is that it
is difficult for new owners to distinguish males and
females.  Partridge meat is light like chicken with a
slight sweetness to it.  We offer straight Chukar
and Chukar-Redleg crosses.  The cross is a little
more wild than the Chukar and has more color.
They have black speckles in the neck and more of
a reddish tone to the sides and mask.  Over-all the
Partridge is a great addition to your property or to
your enclosed pens.

Valley Quail, as their name implies, are native to
the Western United States.  They are a very
popular hunt bird.  These are probably the most
popular New-World Quail in captivity.  These little
birds are the ones you probably think of when you
think 'Quail'.  California Valley Quail are steel gray
with a scaled breast.  They have an orange tone
to the belly and very nice lacing and markings on
the neck and wings.  Males have a black
facemask surrounded by white straps.  Both
sexes have a large teardrop-shaped crest off the
forehead.  These birds are heat and cold tolerant.
They require small amounts of feed and little
water.  They are very flighty and will roost at night.
A perfect addition to your fields for wing-shooting
or just to watch them at the bird feeders.  They
are sure to attract a lot of attention from any of
your visitors.

The Lady Amherst's Pheasant is in the Ruffed
Pheasant family with the Golden Pheasant.  Male
Amhersts have a silver and black ruff that extends
down their face when displaying.  They have dark
greens, blacks and silvers in their plumage.  Hens
are brown and black banded.  This species gets a
little larger than their cousin and has a little more
of an aggressive disposition.  Adult males should
not be kept together.  These are a beautiful
addition to any aviary, collection or ornamental
flock.  Lady Amherst's Pheasants can be housed
with Peafowl and Guinea Fowl.

Golden Pheasants are one of the most colorful
gamebirds around.  We have Red, Yellow,
Cinnamon Splash and assorted rare colors
available.  These birds have long 'penciled' tails.
They have a crest on their head and a ruff of
feathers on the nape of the neck.  When
displaying they extend this ruff down past the
cheek until it forms a mask over much of the face.
They are a fairly hardy bird for their small slender
structure.  These are generally a passive species
and can be kept with other birds such as Peafowl
and Guinea Fowl.  This is the inexpensive start
for the Ornamental Pheasant beginner.

Mikado Pheasants
A black Pheasant, the Mikado is the darkest
member of the Syrmaticus family of Pheasants.
Males shine purple in the sunlight.  They have a
small amount of white markings on the wings and
in the tail.  Males have red orbital wattles.  The hen
is browns and black with little buff tips on some of
the feathers.  Mikado Pheasants are a little larger
than the Elliot's Pheasants.  These are a little
more aggressive than their cousins.  The Mikado
is also endangered in its native range, giving it a
high priority to those who are interested in
conservation of rare birds.

Elliot's Pheasant are an Asian species, native to
thick mountain forests.  They are a gorgeous bird
that prefers a pen with some cover to hide in.
Males are orange and brown with black, white
and silver markings.  The male has silver lacing
on the rump and a banded tail.  His head has a
silver color that wraps around the side of the
neck.  Hens are brown and mottled color with a
black neck patch.  These beautiful birds are
endangered in their native range so it is
especially important to breed quality bloodlines in
captivity.  Elliot's Pheasants are docile birds and
can be housed with Peafowl.

This is the most colorful gamebird.  The adult
male has a crest like that of a Peacock.  He
displays orange, red, green, blue, purple, gold and
black plumage!  Every feather except the tail is
metallic.  The Impeyan Pheasant male looks like
something you could only picture in the best
fantasy films.  This robust Pheasant has a blue
orbital wattle around the eye and a thick curved
beak.  Large claws and short legs are what these
birds use to dig.  They are such an intriguing bird
with their courtship, calls and digging behavior.
This endangered bird is very hard to come by.  In
recent years West Nile Virus has destroyed a lot of
the captive population.  This beautiful bird
desperately needs our help to repopulate.  These
are not very heat tolerant and prefer cold weather
and snow.  They will roost in snowy conifers.

This is the poster child for gamebirds.  The
Ringneck Pheasant is originally from the fields of
China and is now present in every state in the
U.S.  It is extremely hardy and able to adapt.
These are a somewhat aggressive Pheasant
and should not be kept in small quarters.  This
will to dominate is what allows them to survive so
well in the wild.  Males are very colorful while
hens are more camouflage colored.  Ringnecks
are flighty and are the favorite hunt bird
worldwide.  We supply a couple different
varieties: Chinese, Manchurian, Melanistic and
others.  The Chinese has a white collar and an
overall mahogany color.  The Manchurian has a
wide white collar and a gold overall color.
Manchurians have a tendency to roost more in
wooded areas.  Melanistic Ringnecks are black
with metallic green, blue and purple iridescence.
Each variety has its own strong traits.
