| Of the two species of Peafowl, the Green Peafowl are the more slender and elegant. They are taller than the India Peafowl and are more sleek. They usually have a larger overall size to their body. Greens have pointed crests and a colorful patch of skin near the ear. There are three subspecies of Greens: Java, Indo-Chinese and Burmese. | India Peafowl are the more common species, regularly found on farms and in zoo settings. They come in a wide assortment of varieties including white, blackshoulder, cameo, purple and pied. There are no subspecies of India Peafowl, just different mutations of the same bird. The common India Blue is tan and green with the bright blue neck. Hens are brown and green. | Spaldings are hybrid birds- a cross from two species. They are the result of India Peafowl and Green Peafowl breeding. They can breed back to both species, resulting in varying degrees of India and Green blood in the Spalding Peafowl. Spalding Peafowl combine the variety of color and the hardiness of India Peafowl with the elegance and beauty of the Green Peafowl.
