Peafowl
Of the two species of Peafowl, the Green Peafowl
are the more slender and elegant.  They are taller
than the India Peafowl and are more sleek.  They
usually have a larger overall size to their body.
Greens have pointed crests and a colorful patch of
skin near the ear.  There are three subspecies of
Greens: Java, Indo-Chinese and Burmese.  They
are more green in the neck and tail and darker in
the body.  Males and females are similar in color.

India Peafowl are the more common species,
regularly found on farms and in zoo settings.  They
come in a wide assortment of varieties including
white,  blackshoulder, cameo, purple and pied.
There are no subspecies of India Peafowl, just
different mutations of the same bird.  The common
India Blue is tan and green with the bright blue
neck.  Hens are brown and green.  India Peafowl
have a fanned crest and are stockier than the Green
Peafowl, tolerating weather well.

Spalding Peafowl
Spaldings are hybrid birds- a cross from two
species.  They are the result of India Peafowl and
Green Peafowl breeding.  They can breed back to
both species, resulting in varying degrees of India
and Green blood in the Spalding Peafowl.
Spalding Peafowl combine the variety of color and
the hardiness of India Peafowl with the elegance
and beauty of the Green Peafowl.  These birds are
more tolerant of heat and cold than the Green
Peafowl, but are more elegant than the India
Peafowl.
