| A new program started in 2008, Community Chik Pik is an all-around benefit. We are giving (yes, GIVING) free chicks to local families. They are a range from Mad Hatters to Ameraucanas, Seramas to Araucanas. How are we able to do this? Why would we want to? By starting this program we can allow folks who can't afford to purchase a whole batch of chicks and have them shipped the opportunity to raise their own. This is the reason why only local families are eligible for the program- we cannot ship the chicks so you must be within driving distance. We give you a batch of chicks (10-20 chicks) and they are your flock. There is only one catch: when the batch is matured, we come and hand select 3 or 4 birds from the flock that will be taken back to our farm and used in the same program. We give you the whole flock for free and you get to do your part, too. By raising these birds and taking a select few back for breeding, we are ensuring the conservation of the breeds. What better way to help out than actually be a part of the conservation breeding program? There are no strings attached and no down-side to this program.
